And on Pern ...
The time is 14:31.
It is afternoon of the seventy-sixth day of autumn.
It is the tenth Turn of the Tenth Interval.
It is an autumn afternoon.

Players: Alesa, Issri
Summary: Plans for the Harper performance at Herder Hall commence

Courtyard
Slate grey stone forms an even surface, with no stray pebbles to bruise runners' hooves. Scattered around the courtyard's edges, the occasional tree or bush brightens the deadening effect of the rock's expanse. Twin planters, with convenient handles, frame the main Hall's doors, filled with saffron and argent flowers as the season and weather permits. Placed just above the entrance, a ledge offers a perch to firelizards in need of one, large enough to hold a fair without seeming too crowded. Sturdy rings of iron are placed here and there upon the walls of the building, allowing the secure tying of runners and other creatures who might require it. Towards the northeast a path leads off to a stout building that is placed well away from the main hall and stables. There one can find the local smith who provides for the Craft.
It is an autumn afternoon.
Standing quietly are Proximate Cause, Clouded Flames, Creme Dala Creme, and Stark.
You see Flamer Shed, Graldo, Canine [Roza], and Canine [Merevan] here.
You notice Alochkarina, Conlan, and Beka asleep here.
Issri is here.

Alesa walks in.

Issri is standing in the courtyard, holding a runner by the reins. Her firelizards circle overhead and she watches them, a faint smile on her lips. Stark dips his head to nudge the apprentice in the side, and Issri chuckles, rubbing his muzzle gently. "No treats yet."

Alesa wanders out, a checklist in her hand. She looks here and there, trying to acquaint herself with the Herder Hall setup. Ah, a Herder! Perhaps she might know the answer to her question. She adjusts the headband over her forehead (it was slipping) and clears her throat. "Ah..hello..excuse me? I was wondering...can you point me to the direction of Senior Apprentice
Issri's presentation area for her project? I'm Harper Journeyman Alesa, one of the chaperones for the Harper trip here.."

Issri focuses on the Harper and straightens her posture, "Yes, ma'am. I'm Apprentice Issri. I, uh. I have to have a presentation area?" This is news to her, and she suddenly looks nervous.

Alesa smiles, trying to put the young woman at ease. "Well met, Apprentice Issri. Oh ah..I just assumed you would? Being a cookoff? If it doesn't exist yet, I'd understand..there's still about a month before your project, right? Well, we'll be here all month...taking some hidework classes for use with instruments, and other such things. I'm staying in the Female Apprentice Dorms...so when you know more about where the cookoff will be let me know, alright? So..now that I have met you...I have a few questions. One..are you alright with us Harpers adding musical entertainment to your event? Master Beka said she had talked to you about this? And two, if that's acceptable, do you have time to sit down with me and some of the other musicians to brainstorm about what kinds of things you would like us to do?"

Issri blinks, trying to yank her mind from wherever it had been off wandering to the task at hand. She hesitates, running her fingers through Stark's mane before she nods, her face setting into an easy smile, "Yes, ma'am. I'm going to have it here in the Courtyard. Sorry, I thought you meant a table somewhere with information set up. I have notes, but they're in the dorm at the moment. But it's going to be here in the courtyard. I would love to have music! I would be honored if the Harpers would play for my event." She nods, "Of course I have time to brainstorm. That would be..that would be wonderful ma'am, thank you."

Alesa smiles and nods. "Excellent! So this courtyard is where it will be..I will want to see your table layout to see where we could put a group of musicians. We have several specialties among us, mine is flute, Salen is quite good at gitar....Zilurana brought her dulcimer..and I think we have a few singers and percussionists. Do you want several sets, one set, dancing? Any particular times you'd want the music to be, or just going on as background music and dancing throughout?" She hmms, scribbling down some notes on her notebook. "There's several ways we can approach this. We're glad to help especially since it was so kind of Master Beka to welcome us here. " She nods. Only fair to repay!

Issri smiles in return, "I have a rough sketch of how the courtyard is going to be laid out, which I can go get for you if you wouldn't mind waiting? And holding a runner?" She grins and offers the Harper the stallion's reigns.

Alesa grins. "Surely! I grew up on a farmhold, I can watch a runner for a time" She takes the reins and pats the stallion on the neck. "I'll be here"
Stark whuffs lightly at Alesa, and makes a show of searching her pockets. Treeeeeeats for the pretty starving runner? Treeeeeeats? He whickers huskily and pricks his ears.

Issri nods and races off, returning in short order with a few rolled up pieces of hide. "Here," she says, handing them to the Harper. "I'll go put him back in his stall, since we'll be working on this." She jogs off with the stallion and returns in short time. "So, what do you think?" The sketch of the courtyard is positively crammed full of tents. Smaller cooking tents surround a larger judging tent which is placed in the center of the courtyard.

Alesa fishes out an apple from her pack, offering it to the stallion. "Here ya go. I always keep a few of these to snack on." Farmgirl at heart! She holds out her hand to the stallion while looking to her side at the plans. "Hmm...she ponders. "That's alot of tents. Do you think there'd be any room to the side to set up a small open area..for a stage? And what kind of music did you want? Continuous, a few sets at certain times, dancing music, regular music..?"

Issri nods, "Yes, ma'am. It's a cooking contest, and I need to keep people apart so that no one cheats. Each one of those little tents is going to be a mini kitchen for pairs to work in." She thinks, rocking back on her heels. "I was hoping we could have a party afterwards. I think that during the contest people are going to be so focused on cooking that they probably won't be able to focus on your wonderful music. So maybe during the party afterwards, and people could dance?"

Alesa hmms. "That could work. This layout here does look a bit crowded..and it might affect the acoustics." She chews her pen, scribbling down some more notes. " Where would you want the music to be afterwards. Just rearrange some things in the Courtyard here, or have it inside? I have been told there is also a performance area indoors thats quite nice, for the Harpers. I just haven't seen it in years..I forget." Always the planner.

Issri looks thoughtful, "You know," she admits with a chuckle, "I don't know if we have an area inside or not. If we did that would be very nice. Otherwise, yes, we could clear the cooking tents away. Which would you prefer?"

Alesa tilts her head. She scratches her temple with her quill. "Well, its your project- what do you think is best? Will it be easier to clear away tents or just move it indoors? How late in the day does your project go? If the party is in the evening, might want to build some bonfires to keep people warm while they're enjoying the food drink and music.. and it will be colder than if its indoors. If there is even this rumored area anymore..its been.." She shivers, pulling her coat tighter. "Shards..turns and turns since I was in this area." She speaks as if she's an old creaky lady.

Issri winces slightly and shakes her head, "I think that if we could find this rumored room, that moving things inside would be good. Plus, I could have drinks and things already set out in there, so the party wouldn't have to wait on food and refreshments."

Alesa laughs a little. "Forgive me. I'm an Ista gal. Used to warm weather. I see your reasoning. Have people setting things up in the room at the same time so that there's no waiting..." She looks towards the door. "Would you like to go look for the room? I figure if it exists, perhaps we should both know about it." She looks over at the stallion. "Need to put him back in his stall, I figure, hm?"

Issri nods, "Yes, ma'am. I'll go do that right now." She jogs off and returns in short order, brushing a few strands of hay from her shirt. "Shall we?"

Alesa nods, and collects her clipboard. "Yes, lead the way, please. I'm still unfamiliar with the hall"

Issri walks to the Main Hall.

Main Hall
A cavern originally carved out of rock, the main hall has been carefully enlarged outwards, using slate, to make the extension Threadproof and sturdy. A few deep-set windows look out on the courtyard, allowing light in. The rest of the main hall is lit by suspended glowbaskets, a system of pulleys to provide easy changing. A few comfortable looking chairs are scattered around one side, a sharp contrast to the other side, which is clearly a reception area for guests, with a desk and several more formal chairs in a neat and tidy arrangement.
This place is filthy, and some Apprentices better do something about it.
Standing quietly is Sudden Death.
Gliding above are two firelizards.
You see Tink here.
You notice Pridget, Verity, Inesa, Jhiedrik, and Zilurana asleep here.
Fintan and Issri are here.

Long black benches provide a working and writing surface for the HerderCraft students, and backless stools provide seating. A slateboard is set up in the front of the room, near where the door lets out to the main hall. Several deep-set windows provide some illumination, the majority being provided by high-set glowbaskets. Washbowls are set up on one side of the room, as well as shelves containing a variety of books and interesting specimens. On the other side, full-sized skeletons of the animals that the Hall deals with most; canine, feline and runner, are neatly set up.
To the west, you see two people.
You see Herder Test Board, Sr. Apprentice Class Credits, Showcase Board, Basic Herder Classes, and Craft Bookshelves here.
You notice Osher asleep here.

Alesa peers into the classroom. "Perhaps this area would do nicely" she calls out the door to the Herder prowling the halls. "You there? Do you know if we can move the tables around?" She stands by the doorway, taking note of the dimensions and layout of the room.

Issri jogs down the stairs to the entrance to the classroom, looking in curiously. "I'm sure we could," she says thoughtfully. "It would be very nice to have it in here. And people can go back into the courtyard if they want, of course."

Alesa nods. "Sounds good then." She jots down a few more notes. "We could, move these tables to one side of the room to clear the center for dancing and such. Have the musicians at the head of the room opposite the door. And food tables to the side?" She envisions the layout, illustrating with hand gestures.

Issri nods, "Sure, that sounds good," she says with a grin to the Harper. "Whatever you'd like to do is fine with me."

Alesa finishes writing down some notes and maybe a few sketches, and looks up. "Well good then! I'm glad I ran into you.Good to start planning early." She checks the position of the sun out the window. "I think I may need to round up some Harpers and meet up with Master Beka in a few. Feel free to leave any notes or more information on my cot in the Female dorms. Thanks for taking the time to speak with me- I know you must be very busy with preparations.." She holds out her hand to shake Issri's.

Issri nods, "Of course, Journeyman. It will be a pleasure. I'm flattered, thank you."

Alesa nods, putting her clipboard away again. "So, you're going to be a Journeyman soon? How does it feel? I remember when I got my knot. I about cried" she smiles fondly. "What do you plan to do once you join our ranks?" Friendly conversation from one Journeyman to a Journeyman to be.

Issri's expression falters for a moment before the easy smile is back, "Travel," she says with a chuckle. "I was thinking of requesting and Ista posting. I've never been that way before. I am...very excited."

Alesa ahhs "Ista! I'm partial to there. Of course its just where I grew up. Hold, Weyr? Both good choices..and..good weather"

Issri shrugs, "I'm not certain. I'm not very good with runners and herdbeasts, but I'm trying to work more with them so that if I get sent to the weyr I can do a good job for them."

Alesa nods. "Well, good luck!" She spies some of the said apprentices walking by the door. "Fintan..hey..?" She calls out. "Ah, its been very nice chatting, but I need to gather up our apprentices to meet with Master Beka. Have a good afternoon." She waves as she heads out the door.
